Golden Gate Bridge

Gephyrophobia, gehydrophobia, or gephysrophobia (from gephura, "bridge"), is the fear of crossing bridges. Gephyrophobia may avoid routes that will take them over bridges. Some possible explanations of gephyrophobia may be the fear of the structural integrity of the bridge itself, or the fear that the bridge will collapse if they try to cross it. The causes of this phobia include losing control of the car while crossing the bridge, seeing car crashes on the bridge, bridge collapses as seen on the news, or even getting trapped on the narrow bridge.

Gephyrophobes could begin to perspire, feel slightly uncomfortable or become nauseated when have to cross the bridge. When severe sufferers confront the bridge to cross, they might experience paralyzing anxiousness and/or panic attacks.

In popular culture, Gephyrophobia is the name of a map in the video game Halo. On the map, the two bases are connected only by a bridge flanked by snipers' outposts. The name most likely comes from the fact that the players are frequently killed on the bridge.
