Ekrixiphobia (from Greek ekrixi, explosion) is the fear of explosions. The fear is most commonly triggered from seeing explosions in person or on the news. People suffering this fear would leave the residence and live in a shelter while not using gas and fire. Symptoms of ekrixiphobia include shortness of breath, speedy breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall bad feeling. This phobia is most commonly treated using medications, as well as alternative methods like cognitive-behavioral therapy.

The more serious branch of ekrixiphobia is atomosophobia, fear of atomic explosions.
