Doronophobia is an irrational fear of opening gifts. The fear usually traces back to the childhood. Sufferers would believe that what's inside the gifts may be undesirable or even hazardous. He/she may dread when receiving gifts and panic when the sufferer opens the gift.
Since gift giving annually takes place during the birthday and Christmas, sufferers may fear both of these events as well.
Symptoms include rapid breathing, helplessness, and panic attack. It is most commonly treated using behavior and talk therapies.
